ELECTRIC EYES AND RED MANES REIGN IN HOLLYWOOD

A crop of Tinseltown’s finest are channeling their inner Jessica Rabbit and trading their once natural-toned tresses for sultry crimson hues. Whether subtle or bold, the stars know a red mop is sure to turn heads. Blake Lively, Rihanna, Drew Barrymore and Scarlett Johansson are some of the celebs to recently jump on the ginger bandwagon. Lively swapped her golden locks for a rich strawberry shade while Rihanna traded her raven mane for a vibrant vermilion. A coppery tone is fitting to a bold Barrymore while Johansson chose a subdued version of the very color her first name boasts. Red manes require maintenance as well as spunk according to colorist Lorri Goddard-Clark, as redheaded ladies are ubiquitously clichéd to be as fiery as their coifs. Both true to their craft, Lively and Johansson transformed their tresses for feisty movie roles and will most likely go back to their aforementioned roots once they return from the set. Style chameleons Barrymore and Rihanna will likely reign in red through the season and just may convince the company they keep to join in on the crimson coif coup.
Another trend tackling Hollywood is popping up on celebrities’ pretty peepers. A funky update to fall’s sable smoky eye, stars are making a statement with brightly lined lids, and they seem to be swiping to the mantra, the bolder, the better. A precursor to the trend’s celebrity cult following, neon hues like electric blue and highlighter yellow appeared on the spring runways of Nanette Lepore and Christian Dior. Revising the runway trend for reality, Kate Hudson graced her pretty lids with a radiant turquoise pigment while Rachel McAdams traced her lids with citrus yellow. Always willing to push boundaries, brazen beauties Katy Perry and Lady Gaga used a heavy hand to line eyes with their very own Day-Glo rainbows.
For those who want to test the trend but aren’t ready to toss their beloved black or brown, try using highlighter brights as an accent to a neutral base liner. Makeup maestro Tom Pecheux suggests starting with a light application; you can always saturate the colors once you become comfortable with the pop of pigment. Whether sauntering the red carpet like Hudson or the grocery aisle a la Lady Gaga, once you have the moxie to mirror your electric-hued lids, you’ll no doubt love the boost your peepers get from the unexpected shot of color.
